We are thrilled to announce the addition of 10 new faculty members for the 2016-2017 academic year. Please join us in welcoming these new faces in the halls of YCDS.
Susan Danner – Lower School Robotics
Mrs. Danner has a bachelor’s degree in Human Development from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and a master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from Towson University. She has also obtained a Teacher Certification in Elementary Education from Drexel University. Mrs. Danner is a familiar face to many at YCDS. She has served as a teaching assistant from first and fifth grades, as well a mentor for our FLL program. She has experience in the classroom from Southern York County School District and York City School District and previously worked as a school-based occupational therapist.
Stacey Filippone – Digital Arts
Mrs. Filippone has a Diploma of Fine Art from Pennsylvania College of Art and Design and a B.A. in Fine Arts and Graphic Design from York College of Pennsylvania. In 2005, she received her K-12 Art Teaching Certification from Millersville University. Most recently, she received her masters in Human Services from Argosy University. Mrs. Filippone has teaching experience at York College of PA, the Art Institute of York and Cornwall Lebanon School District. In addition to her teaching experiences, she is an active member of the local art community and serves as board member for Creative York.
Paige Hoke – Interim Performing Arts Chair
Ms. Hoke has a B.F.A. in Acting from Arcadia University. She had a wealth of experience in theater education and production. Ms. Hoke has served as the High School Drama Director and Choreographer for Bermudian Springs School District since 2014. She has experience directing, teaching, acting and serving as playwright for a variety of local theaters including DreamWrights and The Belmont (formerly York Little Theatre). In addition to teaching acting and production, Ms. Hoke will be the Middle and Upper School Chorus Director.
Danielle Kardisco – First Grade
Mrs. Kardisco has a BFA in Musical Theater from Shenandoah University and is a graduate of Wilson College’s Teacher Intern Program. She has experience in teaching grades ranging from preschool to third. Mrs. Kardisco is active in the community and enjoys participating in community choirs as a vocalist.
Chrissa May – Fifth Grade
Mrs. May has a bachelor’s degree in Education from American University. She returns to YCDS after a year hiatus. Most recently, she was our fourth grade teacher for York Country Day School; however, she has also served as our lower school librarian and Pre-K teacher. In addition to her time at YCDS, Mrs. May has taught in Maryland, Oregon and South Carolina. Mrs. May’s passion for education and for her students is hard to miss. We are grateful to have her back at YCDS.
Evan Scherr – Program Director for New Media
Mr. Scherr joins us from Nevada where he earned a B.A. in Communication and a Master’s of Education in Curriculum & Instruction: Technology Integration from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. His background in education includes the Clark County School District in Las Vegas, NV, as well as the Department of Defense Education Activity in Sasebo, Japan. Mr. Scherr moved to York this past spring and has been working with the Administration Team to prepare for our first year of New Media courses.
Michelle Schneider – First Grade
Mrs. Schneider earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from West Chester University and a master’s degree in Educational Development and Strategy from Wilkes University. She has twelve years of experience teaching first grade in Palmyra Area School District. She is excited to join the YCDS family and to be a part of the first grade team.
Kristen Spangler – Upper School History and English
Ms. Spangler has a B.A. in English Literature and Norwegian/Scandinavian Area Studies from the University of Washington. She also earned a M. Phil. in Medieval English Studies from the University of Glasgow and a M.S. in Secondary English from Saint Joseph’s University. She has all but dissertation status toward her Ph.D. in English Literature from the University College Cork in Cork, Ireland. Most recently, Ms. Spangler taught at Harbor School and Harrisburg Academy. She has experience teaching both Middle and Upper School students, as well as serving as an advisor to student organizations.
Corey Stiles – Middle and Upper School Physical Education and Health
Mr. Stiles is a graduate of Southern New Hampshire University’s Sports Management Program. He is the boy’s basketball coach and, under his direction, the team made it all the way to State Playoffs last year. We are very excited to have him join the staff in this capacity.
Kevin Wells – Middle and Upper School Science
Mr. Wells has a B.S. in Physics from Ohio Northern University and a master’s degree in Physics from the University of Kentucky. He has teaching experience from two independent schools, The Kiski School in Saltsburg, PA, and North Cross School in Roanoke, VA. In addition to his experience in teaching a variety of Physics courses, Mr. Wells has also taught Astronomy and Engineering Design.
