Amid the many exciting things happening at York Country Day these days, yet another will soon be coming to the forefront: our accreditation process! Mrs. Debbie Donovan will be coordinating our school’s combined accreditation by the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools and Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. These accreditations ensure that York Country Day School meets comprehensive standards of educational excellence for private independent schools in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Delaware.
The process consists of a yearlong self-study that examines York Country Day School in ten major categories. Looking at best practices in these categories, the school will identify areas of strength as well as areas that can be improved. This study is then shared with a team of professionals from other independent schools who examine each area of the study in great detail. The process culminates in a four-day visit by the team experience to observe our school putting our mission into practice.
You may be thinking that this does not sound all that fun and exciting, but Mrs. Donovan’s recent experience on a team in Philadelphia makes her confident that this process is going to be positive, healthy, and invigorating. Serving on an accreditation team was, without a doubt, one of the best experiences of her professional career. The team members’ varied experiences were invaluable in making recommendations to the school. By the end of the four days we felt like a part of the school family, rooting for their success and genuinely invested in their future.
York Country Day’s on-site visit is scheduled for October 22-25, 2017. We are looking forward to the opportunity the self-study provides to make our school community the very best it can be, and we are excited to show our wonderful school to the visiting committee in the fall of 2017!
